Story Inspiration

By Adam Bush on January 24, 2018

We’ve got a little story inspiration for you to keep your week a-moving. Today we’re looking at one of our favorite storytellers, Vox. These guys make INCREDIBLE stories about the most interesting topics. This one is specifically on the magic of the song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. Here’s why I love it.

It Keeps Moving Forward
This piece clocks in at just under 5 minutes, but it doesn’t feel like it. Watch the beats and edits. You’ll find it moves and changes moments every few seconds, which communicates an idea we definitely believe in: MAKE THE STORY AS LONG AS IT IS GOOD.

The Animation is Excellent
It’s possible as you watch this video that you’ll think, “This animation is better than I can pull off.” That’s probably true for all of us, but here’s the takeaway: take pride in your work. If you have an opportunity to create three pieces of animation and they’ll all be pretty good – OR – you can create one piece that’s really good, perhaps you should choose to spend your time on the one. Food for thought.

The Interview Positioning is Interesting
It’s easy in the church world to always fall on the one- or two-camera interview driving the whole piece, and that’s not bad, but it doesn’t have the be the ONLY way you tell a story. Watch how Vox interweaves the interviews in and out, then, cry, because they’re awesome. : )

Hope you enjoy this and grab every takeaway you can!
